How are you beating the heat? Environment Canada extends heat warning through weekend
Another heat warning for our region drags on, with Environment Canada extending its notice through the long weekend.
A heat event is expected to continue today, possibly into the weekend.
Maximum daytime temperatures of 30 to 32 degrees Celsius are expected, with humidex values near 40. Overnight minimum temperatures will be 19 to 21 degrees Celsius.
Extreme heat can affect everyone's health.
The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues.
Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration.
Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle.
Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.

How are you staying cool? The image below was posted online by @SydPark@mastodon.social and serves as a reminder that our animals are struggling to cope with the conditions as well.
This man had a practical idea to prevent his dog burning its feet on the hot pavement. We may forget, since we are wearing shoes, that asphalt in particular can be exceedingly hot to an animal and should be avoided.
Here’s a handy reference for you and your pets regarding heat stroke.
If you must work outside, please take care, and drink plenty of water.
Or maybe this is the best solution?
